Simple health checks in my control
I didn't know that private blood tests were an option. Tried this platform as the packages suited what I wanted for a good price. Easy to follow instructions, and super quick results. Platform provides more information than my gp's ever have on the tests and what the results meant. Would like more clinics to be able to test at (specifically Capital Pathology) but there is a decent network. Will continue to use.

Calcium Blood Test
"I'm a little biased as I work here! However, I love that The Bloody Good Test tracks my health over time. After turning 40, I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to drop dead from something basic I should have known about earlier. Measuring all my core biomarkers each year gives me peace of mind my health is on the right track"

Overview
This test measures retinol—the active form of vitamin A responsible for supporting immune function, vision, skin health, and cellular repair. Maintaining optimal vitamin A levels helps ensure proper growth, tissue regeneration, and barrier protection. By assessing your retinol status, this test helps determine whether your diet provides enough vitamin A to meet your body’s needs.
Vitamin A deficiency or excess can lead to issues such as night vision difficulties, dry skin, hair loss, frequent infections, and fatigue. Individuals with restricted diets, digestive challenges, or chronic health conditions may be more prone to imbalance. This test enables personalised nutritional adjustments that help optimise skin health, immunity, and overall wellbeing.
Symptoms
This test identifies low or excessive vitamin A levels, which are crucial for vision, immunity, skin health, and cellular repair. Symptoms of imbalance may include night vision difficulties, dry eyes, frequent infections, rough or dry skin, poor healing, or fatigue. It is helpful for those with restricted diets, fat-absorption issues, or conditions affecting immune or skin function.

How to prepare
1. Prepare Your Kit
Wash your hands with warm water and dry them thoroughly. Lay out your kit’s contents — dried blood collection card, lancet, alcohol pad, gauze pad, bandage, and return envelope — on a clean surface. Warming your hands and shaking them gently can help increase blood flow for easier collection.
2. Collect Your Sample
Use the provided lancet to perform a quick finger prick. Allow one or more drops of blood to fall onto the designated circles on the dried blood spot card. Ensure the circles are fully saturated, but avoid touching the card with your fingers.
3. Let It Dry
Allow your blood spot sample to dry completely at room temperature before packaging. This usually takes a few minutes — do not cover or seal the card until dry.
4. Pack and Return
Once dry, place the card and all components back into the return envelope provided. Seal and mail it using the pre-paid return label. Your sample will be analysed at our specialised lab.
5. Receive Your Results
Lab analysis typically takes one week.
After the test
Once your results are ready, you can review them and discuss the findings with a qualified practitioner to interpret what they mean for your health and create an appropriate plan if needed.
Your test results will be available in your private dashboard. If there are any urgent issues, we'll let you know so you can follow up with your health professional.
Understanding results
Your report reflects your retinol levels, the primary active form of vitamin A. Results below the optimal range may relate to issues with vision, immunity, or skin health. High levels may suggest excess intake, so balancing your diet is key to maintaining healthy vitamin A levels.
