Overview

The Female Hormone Profile Basic measures six hormones from one morning saliva sample, providing a single-point snapshot of reproductive and adrenal hormone status.

The panel covers three forms of oestrogen (oestrone, oestradiol, oestriol), progesterone, testosterone and DHEA-S. Each plays a different role: oestradiol drives the menstrual cycle, progesterone supports the luteal phase, testosterone influences energy and libido, and DHEA-S reflects adrenal function.

Best collected on day 19 to 21 of your menstrual cycle for cycling women, or any day for post-menopausal women.

Symptoms

Suited to women wanting a baseline hormone snapshot, those experiencing menopausal symptoms or hormonal changes, or anyone wanting a convenient at-home hormone assessment without multi-day collection.

  • Saliva measures free (unbound) hormone levels, which represent the biologically active fraction.
  • This timing captures the mid-luteal phase when progesterone should peak.
  • Collect on any day. Post-menopausal hormone levels are relatively stable.
  • This test provides a single-point snapshot from one sample. The 28-Day profile tracks hormones across 11 time points throughout your cycle.
  • Hormonal contraceptives suppress natural hormone production. Results will not reflect your natural hormone levels.
  • Ratios between hormones like oestradiol-to-progesterone can reveal imbalances that individual levels might miss.

How to prepare

Collect saliva sample in the morning within 30 minutes of waking, before eating, drinking or brushing teeth. For cycling women, collect on day 19 to 21 of your menstrual cycle. For post-menopausal women, any day is suitable. Avoid hormonal supplements for 48 hours before collection if medically appropriate.

After the test

Discuss results with a healthcare provider experienced in female hormones. They can recommend interventions based on your hormone patterns.

Understanding results

Results show levels of all six hormones with reference ranges and hormone ratios. Patterns of imbalance such as oestrogen dominance, low progesterone or adrenal insufficiency become apparent when hormones are assessed together.
