How to prepare

This test requires two saliva samples:

- Baseline sample: Collect before chewing gum. Do not eat, drink (other than water), or brush your teeth for at least 2 hours beforehand. Rinse your mouth with water before collection if needed.
- Post-chewing sample: Chew the piece of gum provided in your kit for the time specified in the instructions, then collect the second saliva sample immediately after. This sample reflects metal released by stimulation of the dental fillings.

Avoid smoking before sample collection. Follow all instructions in your kit carefully.

After the test

If elevated metals are found, your healthcare provider can help identify possible exposure sources and discuss whether confirmatory testing through blood or urine is appropriate.
