Omega-3 Plus: Omega-3 Index, Omega-6:3 Ratio, and AA:EPA Ratio At Home Test Kit

$88.00 AUD

Want to know whether your Omega-3 levels and fatty acid ratios are where they should be, and how your diet may be influencing inflammation?

The Omega-3 Plus test measures three key fatty acid markers from a finger-prick blood spot sample collected at home: your Omega-3 Index, Omega-6:3 ratio, and AA:EPA ratio. These markers reflect the balance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory fatty acids in your body.

Overview

The Omega-3 Plus test goes beyond a basic Omega-3 Index by adding two additional ratios that provide more context about your fatty acid balance.

Your Omega-3 Index measures the percentage of EPA and DHA in your red blood cell membranes, reflecting your long-term Omega-3 status. The Omega-6:3 ratio shows the balance between Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids in your diet. The AA:EPA ratio looks specifically at arachidonic acid versus EPA, two fatty acids with opposing roles in inflammatory pathways.

Modern diets tend to be higher in Omega-6 fatty acids (from vegetable oils, processed foods) relative to Omega-3s (from oily fish, flaxseed, walnuts). A higher ratio may be associated with increased inflammatory activity in the body. By measuring all three markers together, you get a more complete picture of your fatty acid profile than an Omega-3 Index alone would provide.

This test is suited to people who take Omega-3 supplements and want to check whether they are making a measurable difference, people with inflammatory concerns, active individuals interested in recovery, and anyone wanting to understand how their diet is reflected in their blood.

Symptoms

This test measures the balance between Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids using three markers. An imbalanced Omega-6:3 ratio or elevated AA:EPA ratio may be associated with increased inflammation, joint discomfort, slow recovery, skin irritation and metabolic changes. It is suited to people managing inflammatory concerns, monitoring the effect of dietary changes or supplements, or wanting to understand how their fatty acid intake is reflected in their blood.

Questions

  • Your Omega-3 Index (EPA + DHA as a percentage of red blood cell membrane fatty acids), your Omega-6:3 ratio, and your AA:EPA ratio.
  • A high ratio may be associated with increased inflammatory activity. It reflects the balance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory fatty acids in your diet.
  • Yes. Fatty acid levels reflect your recent dietary and supplement intake over the preceding weeks to months.
  • A simple finger-prick blood spot test you collect at home. The kit includes everything you need.
  • Every 3 to 4 months is practical, especially if you are adjusting your diet or supplementation.

How to prepare

1. Prepare Your Kit
Wash your hands with warm water and dry them thoroughly. Lay out the kit contents on a clean surface: dried blood collection card, lancet, alcohol pad, gauze pad, bandage and return envelope. Warming your hands and shaking them gently can help increase blood flow.

2. Collect Your Sample
Use the provided lancet to perform a quick finger prick. Allow one or more drops of blood to fall onto the designated circles on the dried blood spot card. Make sure the circles are fully saturated. Avoid touching the card with your fingers.

3. Let It Dry
Allow your blood spot sample to dry completely at room temperature before packaging. This usually takes a few minutes. Do not cover or seal the card until it is dry.

4. Pack and Return
Once dry, place the card and all components back into the return envelope provided. Seal and mail it using the pre-paid return label.

After the test

Once your results are ready, review them and discuss the findings with a qualified healthcare provider. They can help interpret what your ratios mean in the context of your diet, symptoms and health goals. Retesting every 3 to 4 months can help track whether dietary or supplement changes are reflected in your markers.

Your test results will be available in your private dashboard. If there are any urgent issues, we'll let you know so you can follow up with your health professional.

Understanding results

Your report includes your Omega-3 Index, Omega-6:3 ratio and AA:EPA ratio, each shown alongside reference ranges. A balanced ratio suggests your fatty acid intake is supporting anti-inflammatory pathways. A high Omega-6:3 or AA:EPA ratio may suggest that pro-inflammatory fatty acids are more dominant. Discuss your results with a healthcare provider to understand what they may mean for your individual situation.

Simple health checks in my control

I didn't know that private blood tests were an option. Tried this platform as the packages suited what I wanted for a good price. Easy to follow instructions, and super quick results. Platform provides more information than my gp's ever have on the tests and what the results meant. Would like more clinics to be able to test at (specifically Capital Pathology) but there is a decent network. Will continue to use.
