Highly Sensitive C-Reactive Protein (hs-CRP) Blood Test

$38.00 AUD

Want to check for low-level inflammation that could be affecting your heart health, especially if your cholesterol looks normal but cardiovascular risk runs in your family?

Measures very low levels of C-reactive protein to assess cardiovascular risk from chronic low-grade inflammation, even when cholesterol appears normal. No fasting required.

Overview

The High-Sensitivity CRP test acts like an early warning system for your heart, detecting tiny amounts of inflammation in your body that could signal future cardiovascular problems. C-reactive protein is your body's natural alarm bell—when there's inflammation anywhere in your system, your liver releases more of this protein into your bloodstream. While regular inflammation tests only catch major flare-ups, this highly sensitive version can spot the subtle, ongoing inflammation that quietly damages blood vessels over time, much like how rust slowly weakens metal pipes.

This test is particularly valuable because it reveals heart disease risk that traditional cholesterol and blood pressure tests might miss, giving you a more complete picture of your cardiovascular health. Higher CRP levels may indicate that chronic inflammation is working behind the scenes to contribute to heart disease, even when you feel perfectly healthy. For people with family history of heart problems, diabetes, obesity, or those whose other risk factors put them in a "gray area," this test can help determine whether more aggressive prevention strategies are needed to protect your heart for years to come.

Symptoms

hs-CRP is used to assess cardiovascular risk in people who may otherwise have no obvious warning signs. Research links persistently elevated hs-CRP with higher risk of heart disease, even when cholesterol levels appear normal. It is often used alongside a lipid panel for a more complete picture of heart health.

Questions

  • Standard CRP detects inflammation from infection, injury, or autoimmune flares. hs-CRP uses a more sensitive assay to detect very low levels of inflammation relevant to cardiovascular risk.
  • It's best to wait until you've fully recovered from any illness.
  • Yes. Combining hs-CRP with a lipid panel gives a more complete cardiovascular risk picture.
  • Yes. Elevated hs-CRP is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular events, even in people with normal cholesterol.
  • Smoking, obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, poor sleep, and a diet high in processed foods are all associated with elevated hs-CRP.

How to prepare

No fasting required. Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours before the test. If you're currently unwell or recovering from an infection, wait until you've fully recovered before testing.

After the test

Share your result with your GP, particularly if you're reviewing heart health markers broadly. hs-CRP is most useful when combined with a lipid panel, blood pressure, and other cardiovascular risk factors.

Your test results will be available in your private dashboard. If there are any urgent issues, we'll let you know so you can follow up with your health professional.

Understanding results

hs-CRP for cardiovascular risk is typically interpreted using three categories:
- Below 1.0 mg/L: low cardiovascular risk
- 1.0 to 3.0 mg/L: average cardiovascular risk
- Above 3.0 mg/L: higher cardiovascular risk

If your result is very high (above 10 mg/L), it's more likely reflecting an active infection or acute inflammation rather than baseline cardiovascular risk.

Simple health checks in my control

I didn't know that private blood tests were an option. Tried this platform as the packages suited what I wanted for a good price. Easy to follow instructions, and super quick results. Platform provides more information than my gp's ever have on the tests and what the results meant. Would like more clinics to be able to test at (specifically Capital Pathology) but there is a decent network. Will continue to use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most collection centres accept walk-ins. Some may require a booking - check details when you click on your chosen location.

If your test needs fasting, we’ll include that in your instructions after you order. Fasting usually means no food for 8–12 hours, but water is fine.

Just your pathology referral form (we email it to you)

Of course. Just maybe don’t bring the friend who faints at the sight of blood.

They’re the highly trained professionals who take your blood sample - with a steady hand and a sharp needle. They love blood, but don’t worry… they’re not vampires. Just legends who make blood tests quick, clean, and (almost) painless.

Some of our tests include Urine, Stool, Saliva and more. Each test will have a clear description on what sample you will need to give and instructions on how.
