Overview

The ELFT is a combined blood panel that covers electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride, bicarbonate) and liver function markers (ALT, AST, GGT, ALP, bilirubin, albumin, total protein) in a single draw.

The electrolyte markers reflect fluid balance, acid-base status, and the function of organs that regulate these systems. The liver function markers provide information about different aspects of liver health.

This panel is commonly ordered as part of routine health checks, to monitor medication effects, and when symptoms suggest that one or both systems may warrant investigation. No fasting is required.

Symptoms

Suited to people wanting a combined overview of electrolyte balance and liver health in a single test. Commonly ordered in general health checks, to monitor medication effects, or when symptoms suggest both systems may be involved.

Questions

  • Electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride, bicarbonate) and a full liver function panel (ALT, AST, GGT, ALP, bilirubin, albumin, total protein).

  • Conditions affecting the kidneys or adrenal glands, dehydration, medications, vomiting, diarrhoea, and acid-base disorders.

Biomarkers Tested

This package measures the core biomarkers influencing your health and well-being. Essential for identifying issues and tracking changes over time.

How to prepare

Take a sample before 10 a.m. Fast for 8-12 hours before testing. Drink 1-2 glasses of water upon waking. Avoid training 24-48 hours prior to the test, especially if you are scheduled for LFTs. Inform your healthcare provider of medications, especially if you are undergoing a pathology test for liver health.

After the test

Share your results with your GP. Abnormalities in the electrolyte portion may prompt further kidney or adrenal investigation. Abnormalities in the liver function portion may lead to imaging or additional liver markers.

Your test results will be available in your private dashboard. If there are any urgent issues, we'll let you know so you can follow up with your health professional.

Understanding results

The ELFT panel covers two groups of markers:

Electrolytes: sodium, potassium, chloride, bicarbonate
Liver function: ALT, AST, GGT, ALP, bilirubin, albumin, total protein

Your practitioner will interpret all results alongside your symptoms, medications, and health history.

Simple health checks in my control

I didn't know that private blood tests were an option. Tried this platform as the packages suited what I wanted for a good price. Easy to follow instructions, and super quick results. Platform provides more information than my gp's ever have on the tests and what the results meant. Would like more clinics to be able to test at (specifically Capital Pathology) but there is a decent network. Will continue to use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most collection centres accept walk-ins. Some may require a booking - check details when you click on your chosen location.

If your test needs fasting, we’ll include that in your instructions after you order. Fasting usually means no food for 8–12 hours, but water is fine.

Just your pathology referral form (we email it to you)

Of course. Just maybe don’t bring the friend who faints at the sight of blood.

They’re the highly trained professionals who take your blood sample - with a steady hand and a sharp needle. They love blood, but don’t worry… they’re not vampires. Just legends who make blood tests quick, clean, and (almost) painless.

Some of our tests include Urine, Stool, Saliva and more. Each test will have a clear description on what sample you will need to give and instructions on how.
