Simple health checks in my control

I didn't know that private blood tests were an option. Tried this platform as the packages suited what I wanted for a good price. Easy to follow instructions, and super quick results. Platform provides more information than my gp's ever have on the tests and what the results meant. Would like more clinics to be able to test at (specifically Capital Pathology) but there is a decent network. Will continue to use.

Calcium Blood Test

Overview

This test measures 26 amino acids, including essential, non-essential, and conditionally essential amino acids such as leucine, lysine, methionine, glutamine, taurine, and more. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and play vital roles in muscle repair, energy production, neurotransmitter balance, digestion, and metabolic function. A comprehensive amino acid profile provides powerful insight into nutrient status and overall wellbeing.

Imbalances may contribute to fatigue, poor recovery, mood disturbances, digestive issues, weak immunity, and difficulty building or maintaining muscle. This test is ideal for athletes, individuals with restrictive diets, those experiencing chronic stress, or anyone wanting to optimise metabolic health from the ground up. An amino acid assessment helps you identify deficiencies and tailor nutrition for improved performance, energy, and vitality.

Symptoms

This test provides insight into amino acid balance, which affects energy, mood, digestion, muscle growth, and overall metabolic function. Imbalances may contribute to fatigue, poor recovery, low mood, sleep issues, digestive discomfort, hair or nail changes, and difficulty building or maintaining muscle. It is helpful for athletes, individuals with dietary restrictions, or those addressing chronic health concerns.

How to prepare

1. Prepare Your Kit
Wash your hands with warm water and dry them thoroughly. Lay out your kit’s contents — dried blood collection card, lancet, alcohol pad, gauze pad, bandage, and return envelope — on a clean surface. Warming your hands and shaking them gently can help increase blood flow for easier collection.

2. Collect Your Sample
Use the provided lancet to perform a quick finger prick. Allow one or more drops of blood to fall onto the designated circles on the dried blood spot card. Ensure the circles are fully saturated, but avoid touching the card with your fingers.

3. Let It Dry
Allow your blood spot sample to dry completely at room temperature before packaging. This usually takes a few minutes — do not cover or seal the card until dry.

4. Pack and Return
Once dry, place the card and all components back into the return envelope provided. Seal and mail it using the pre-paid return label. Your sample will be analysed at our specialised lab.

5. Receive Your Results
Lab analysis typically takes one week.

After the test

Once your results are ready, you can review them and discuss the findings with a qualified practitioner to interpret what they mean for your health and create an appropriate plan if needed.

Your test results will be available in your private dashboard. If there are any urgent issues, we'll let you know so you can follow up with your health professional.

Understanding results

Your results will show your Omega-3 Index as a percentage. Higher values reflect healthier long-term levels of EPA and DHA, which are associated with heart, brain, and overall wellbeing. If your percentage is low, it may indicate that your diet doesn’t provide enough Omega-3s, and increasing oily fish or supplements may help improve your score.
