Homocysteine At Home Test Kit

$69.00 AUD

Concerned about cardiovascular health or wondering whether B-vitamin levels could be affecting your energy and mood?

Measures homocysteine from a finger-prick blood spot sample. Elevated levels are associated with increased cardiovascular risk and may reflect B6, B12, or folate deficiency. Relevant for people monitoring heart health or investigating fatigue, mood changes, or cognitive concerns.

Overview

Homocysteine is an amino acid produced during the metabolism of methionine. Your body normally converts homocysteine back into methionine or cysteine using B6, B12 and folate as cofactors. When these B vitamins are insufficient, homocysteine accumulates in the blood.

Elevated homocysteine has been associated with increased cardiovascular risk, and may also reflect methylation pathway dysfunction.

Symptoms

This test measures homocysteine, a metabolic marker linked to cardiovascular, neurological and methylation health. Elevated levels may be associated with headaches, fatigue, mood changes, cognitive concerns or poor circulation. It is particularly relevant for people with cardiovascular risk factors, known methylation gene variants (such as MTHFR), or dietary patterns that may limit B-vitamin intake.

Questions

  • It measures homocysteine, an amino acid linked to cardiovascular health, B-vitamin status and methylation function.
  • Elevated levels may reflect B-vitamin deficiencies or methylation pathway issues. Persistently high homocysteine has been associated with increased cardiovascular risk.
  • You can continue your usual routine. B-vitamin supplements may lower homocysteine, which can be useful for tracking treatment response.
  • Fasting is not required for this test.
  • Every 3 months is reasonable if you are actively addressing elevated levels. Less frequent monitoring may be appropriate once levels stabilise.

How to prepare

1. Prepare Your Kit
Wash your hands with warm water and dry them thoroughly.

2. Collect Your Sample
Use the provided lancet to perform a quick finger prick. Allow drops of blood to fall onto the designated circles on the card. Ensure circles are fully saturated.

3. Let It Dry
Allow sample to dry completely at room temperature.

4. Pack and Return
Once dry, place card in the return envelope and mail using the pre-paid label.

After the test

Share your results with a qualified practitioner who can assess them alongside your diet, family history and any known genetic factors. They can advise on whether B-vitamin supplementation, dietary changes or further testing may be appropriate.

Your test results will be available in your private dashboard. If there are any urgent issues, we'll let you know so you can follow up with your health professional.

Understanding results

Your results show your homocysteine level. Elevated levels may signal B-vitamin deficiencies (B6, B12 or folate) or methylation pathway dysfunction. Levels within the reference range are generally considered favourable for cardiovascular and metabolic health.

Simple health checks in my control

I didn't know that private blood tests were an option. Tried this platform as the packages suited what I wanted for a good price. Easy to follow instructions, and super quick results. Platform provides more information than my gp's ever have on the tests and what the results meant. Would like more clinics to be able to test at (specifically Capital Pathology) but there is a decent network. Will continue to use.
