Simple health checks in my control

I didn't know that private blood tests were an option. Tried this platform as the packages suited what I wanted for a good price. Easy to follow instructions, and super quick results. Platform provides more information than my gp's ever have on the tests and what the results meant. Would like more clinics to be able to test at (specifically Capital Pathology) but there is a decent network. Will continue to use.

Calcium Blood Test

Overview

Measures your levels of homocysteine (Hcy), a key metabolic marker, to evaluate car-
diovascular risk and metabolic health. Elevated levels may indicate a higher risk of heart
disease or nutrient deficiencies (e.g., B vitamins)

Symptoms

This test assesses homocysteine levels, a key marker of cardiovascular, neurological, and metabolic health. Elevated homocysteine may be linked to headaches, fatigue, mood changes, cognitive difficulties, poor circulation, or B-vitamin deficiencies. It is particularly important for individuals with cardiovascular risk factors, genetic methylation variants, or dietary deficiencies.

Questions

  • It measures homocysteine, a metabolic marker linked to cardiovascular and neurological health.
  • Elevated levels may indicate B-vitamin deficiencies or increased cardiovascular risk.
  • You can continue your routine, though B vitamins may lower homocysteine levels.
  • Fasting is not required.
  • Every 3 months if you're addressing elevated levels.

How to prepare

1. Prepare Your Kit
Wash your hands with warm water and dry them thoroughly. Lay out your kit’s contents — dried blood collection card, lancet, alcohol pad, gauze pad, bandage, and return envelope — on a clean surface. Warming your hands and shaking them gently can help increase blood flow for easier collection.

2. Collect Your Sample
Use the provided lancet to perform a quick finger prick. Allow one or more drops of blood to fall onto the designated circles on the dried blood spot card. Ensure the circles are fully saturated, but avoid touching the card with your fingers.

3. Let It Dry
Allow your blood spot sample to dry completely at room temperature before packaging. This usually takes a few minutes — do not cover or seal the card until dry.

4. Pack and Return
Once dry, place the card and all components back into the return envelope provided. Seal and mail it using the pre-paid return label. Your sample will be analysed at our specialised lab.

5. Receive Your Results
Lab analysis typically takes one week.

After the test

Once your results are ready, you can review them and discuss the findings with a qualified practitioner to interpret what they mean for your health and create an appropriate plan if needed.

Your test results will be available in your private dashboard. If there are any urgent issues, we'll let you know so you can follow up with your health professional.

Understanding results

Your results show your blood homocysteine level. Elevated homocysteine may signal nutrient deficiencies (such as B6, B12, or folate) or increased cardiovascular risk. Optimal levels support heart, brain, and metabolic health, and may improve with targeted dietary changes.
