Simple health checks in my control

I didn't know that private blood tests were an option. Tried this platform as the packages suited what I wanted for a good price. Easy to follow instructions, and super quick results. Platform provides more information than my gp's ever have on the tests and what the results meant. Would like more clinics to be able to test at (specifically Capital Pathology) but there is a decent network. Will continue to use.

Overview

The HbA1c test measures the percentage of hemoglobin bound to glucose, reflecting your average blood sugar levels over the previous 2–3 months. This long-term marker provides insight into how well your body regulates glucose and is widely used to evaluate metabolic health and insulin sensitivity. It is more stable and reliable than fasting glucose, making it a valuable tool for monitoring trends.

Poor glycaemic control may contribute to fatigue, sugar cravings, increased thirst, weight gain, and slow wound healing. Individuals concerned about metabolic health, insulin resistance, or diabetes risk can benefit from regular HbA1c monitoring. This test helps identify early imbalances, guide dietary and lifestyle changes, and support healthier long-term blood sugar management.

Symptoms

This test evaluates long-term blood glucose control, helping identify early signs of insulin resistance or dysregulated metabolism. Symptoms that may be associated with poor glycaemic control include fatigue, increased thirst, frequent urination, sugar cravings, weight changes, slow wound healing, and low energy. It is essential for individuals monitoring metabolic health or at risk of diabetes.

How to prepare

1. Prepare Your Kit
Wash your hands with warm water and dry them thoroughly. Lay out your kit’s contents — dried blood collection card, lancet, alcohol pad, gauze pad, bandage, and return envelope — on a clean surface. Warming your hands and shaking them gently can help increase blood flow for easier collection.

2. Collect Your Sample
Use the provided lancet to perform a quick finger prick. Allow one or more drops of blood to fall onto the designated circles on the dried blood spot card. Ensure the circles are fully saturated, but avoid touching the card with your fingers.

3. Let It Dry
Allow your blood spot sample to dry completely at room temperature before packaging. This usually takes a few minutes — do not cover or seal the card until dry.

4. Pack and Return
Once dry, place the card and all components back into the return envelope provided. Seal and mail it using the pre-paid return label. Your sample will be analysed at our specialised lab.

5. Receive Your Results
Lab analysis typically takes one week.

After the test

Once your results are ready, you can review them and discuss the findings with a qualified practitioner to interpret what they mean for your health and create an appropriate plan if needed.

Your test results will be available in your private dashboard. If there are any urgent issues, we'll let you know so you can follow up with your health professional.

Understanding results

Your HbA1c result reflects your average blood sugar over the past 2–3 months. Lower values indicate healthier glucose control, while higher values suggest reduced insulin sensitivity or increased glucose exposure. Your result can guide dietary and lifestyle adjustments to support metabolic health.
